Let your T.V. host child have an interview with you

Are you ready for Design Thinking activity? This week, it’s the little television host of stem family channel.

How to Play

In this activity, your child will become a T.V. host of channel. It is called, channel stem family. You and your child will work on writing scripts, having an interview rehearsal, and brainstorming for questions. Most importantly, everything else your child need to know to become a television host.

Step 1: Interview with parents

Before casting at home, create interview questions with your child.

Try out creating six questions or more (It depends on the age of your child)

Write down all questions while being asked by your child.

For example:

Where were you born?

What was your childhood favorite cartoon character?

What was your favorite story you have never forget?

What was your favorite cartoon?

If your child struggled to come up with questions on his/her own. So you should feed him/her some of the questions, and answer them.

As your child ask questions, you point out what other questions he/she could ask.

Step 2: Algorithm Design

When questions are ready, time to practice back and forth conversation. Encourage your child to put his/her ideas into action.

Let your child Interview with you about the theme that he/she likes the ask questions more about.

It would be questions you and him/her created. Additionally, Encourage him/her ask random questions as well.

Make sure he/she follows the instructions (Algorithm) and questions in right order. Practice interviewing at least 2 times before official casting.

Step 3: Prototyping

Prototyping brings the back and forth conversation on the stage with your T.V. host little one.

Create an environment to prepare for T.V. show setting. For example, small stage for host and guest with two chairs, phone or regular camera with triple, and chairs for audience to sit.

Let your child hold a piece of paper with questions to remember.

Encourage him/her not only ask questions, but also make jokes sometimes based on your answers.

He/she doesn’t have to stick with questions or ask exact questions, but be natural and smooth.

If he/she is ready, it is time to test. Invite friends, grandparents for the Stem Family T.V. Show.

Remind your child it is ok to fail. He/she will learn more by making mistakes while trying out new things.

Step 4: Recording/Testing shine

When the interview questions ready and the stage ready, time to cast guest speaker (parents or grandparents) while recording it.

It is going to be so much! It is time to perform as a guest speaker together with your T.V. host child.

You also need one camera director, pick one of your children as a director to manage the T.V. show.

Encourage the director provides feedback and then revise and refine the script, body languages and conversation back and forth.

Your child might be saying that he/she is shy, even though he/she knew family members.

He/she doesn’t have to ask questions in order, however, allow your children to represent in the natural flow of conversation.
